Breaking down the microbiology world one bite at a time

Mary Kefi, PhD

I am a molecular biologist currently completing my postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore. My undergraduate, master’s, and PhD studies
were conducted at the University of Crete in Greece, where I was first introduced to and trained
in vector-borne diseases and malaria. So far, I have been fortunate to contribute to multiple
projects in the field of malaria and Anopheles mosquitoes, including the development of
diagnostic tools for enhanced vector control, understanding the molecular basis of insecticide
resistance, and studying mosquito-parasite interactions. I enjoy studying, writing, and
conducting bench work, and recently, I have become increasingly interested in supporting
science communication strategies.
