Breaking down the microbiology world one bite at a time

Ann-Kathrin Mehnert

Writer, Translator (German)

I am originally from Germany and studied Molecular Biotechnology in my bachelor’s programme. At the time, I became absolutely intrigued by microbiology, in particular viruses and parasites. This led me to specialize in Infectious Diseases during my master’s programme. I am currently pursuing my PhD at Heidelberg University, conducting research on hepatitis E virus and the various strategies this virus has evolved to defend itself against the human immune system. I love talking about science and breaking down complex topics so that others can share my fascination with viruses, parasites, and microbiology in general. As a counterbalance to the lab, I enjoy cycling, running, and bouldering, spending quality time with friends and family, and exploring new cafés with a book in my hand.
